Two graduating seniors received our prestigious departmental prizes at our graduation celebration on May 17.
We awarded Patrick Goff and Carolina D'Andrea our David Bronsen Prize for Excellence in German Studies and the James McLeod Award for Achievement in German, respectively.
The David Bronsen Prize for Excellence in German was established in honor of Professor David Bronsen, a distinguished scholar, teacher, and long-time member of the German Department. The prize is awarded to a graduating German major on the basis of excellent German language skills and superior academic achievement. Patrick completed an honors thesis under Professor Kita, in fall 2018 and graduated cum laude.
The James McLeod Award for Achievement in German was established in honor of Dean James McLeod, an esteemed professor in the German Department, as well as an exceptional colleague and mentor. The award is given to a graduating German major on the basis of overall excellence in German studies and in extracurricular involvement in departmental activities. Carolina was an active member of Delta Phi Alpha and the society's secretary for the last three years. She helped the honorary gain Student Union recognition in the 2017-18 academic year.
