Hannah Arendt: Germanic Film Series

The Spring 2019 Germanic Film Series is based on the theme of "living at the threshold."

April's film, directed by Margarethe von Trotta, is a look at the life and challenges of philosopher and political theorist Hannah Arendt, who reported on the war crimes trial of the Nazi, Adolf Eichmann, for The New Yorker. Trotta's biopic follows Arendt's journey to Israel where she starts her famous paradigm of "the banality of evil" of (in her eyes) thoughtlessly obedient Eichmann, during the trials.

All films will be shown in German with English subtitles. Pizza, sodas, and snacks will be served, and a discussion will occur after the viewing.

Events are free and open to all of the WashU community!
