Soon after Hilda begin a teaching education program, she found out that she could combine her interests in history and languages with both research and teaching. In her master's thesis about marriage norms in the 14th- and 15th- centuries, Hilda explored German and French texts on marriage to reveal a secular discourse that paralleled a medieval theological discourse on marriage.
The German Department’s Higher Education Administration master's program has allowed Hilda to focus on another research area close to her heart: education policies. She will finish her degree in spring 2020, with a capstone project assessing the status of less-commonly taught languages at North American universities. In addition, Hilda will teach introductory Swedish for the department.
