a screen still from the film Good Bye, Lenin

CANCELLED: Good Bye, Lenin!: Germanic Film Series

The spring 2020 Germanic Film Series sets out to explore various aspects of German humor. Do Germans and Austrians have a sense of humor? And, if so, what does that look like?

Christiane Kerner awakens from a coma in June 1990, not knowing that meanwhile the Berlin Wall has ceased to exist. In order to protect her from a shock that could worsen her condition, her son Alex has to make a lot of effort to keep the German Democratic Republic alive inside the space of their apartment.

All films will be shown in German with English subtitles. Pizza, sodas, and snacks will be served, and a discussion will occur after the viewing.

Events are free and open to all of the WashU community!
